New Album Music Review: Chris Brown-”Graffiti”

Graffiti

Chris Brown’s third solo album “Graffiti” has been released today verses being released on December 15 through Jive Records. There are two that have been released which is the regular 13 album track or the 17 album Deluxe Edition which I notice is a new trend with record labels for the past few months verses re-releasing at another time of the year. Producers such as Swizz Beats, Polow Da Don, The Messengers, Ryan Leslie, and The Runners have lended their talents to Breezys new album, just to name a few. Guest appearances on the album feature Lil Wayne, Swizzy, Plies, Tank, Trey Songz, The Game, Eva Simmons, Lupe Fiasco, Ester Dean, Sean Paul, and Rock City.

“Graffiti” Album Tracklisting:
1. I Can Transform Ya ft Lil’ Wayne & Swizz Beatz
2. Sing Like Me E~Notes: One of my fav’s
3. Crawl
4. So Cold
5. What I Do ft Plies E~Notes: “The Runners”…I am so disappointed.
6. Famous Girl E~Notes: Listen to the words…and you can tell that Ryan Leslie produced this track if you are familiar with his sound.
7. Take My Time ft Tank E~Notes: Tank overpowered Chris’s vocals. That’s not what you want on YOUR album.
8. I.Y.A E~Notes: International track which is hot
9. Pass Out ft. Eva Simmons E~Notes: It sounds like a re-make of a track from another artist, it’s in the tip of my tongue
10. Wait ft. Trey Songz & Game
11. Lucky Me
12. Fallin’ Down E~Notes: Listen to the lyrics…definitely personal
13. I’ll Go
15. Gotta Be Ur Man
16. Movie E~Notes: Okay Nafis, the song is “aight”
17. For Ur Love
18. I Need This E~Notes: Production is nice but I don’t like the song.
19. I Love U ft Ester Dean
20. Brown Skin Girl ft Sean Paul and Rock City E~Notes: It sounds “cute” but not a hit
22. Graffiti (iTunes Pre-Order Only Bonus Track)

So here is my verdict about this album as I told Nafis: Out of the 22 tracks, I only like 9 tracks (which as always they are ones that are in “bold”) which to me is honestly disappointing. Now let me explain something before anyone thinks I’m hatin’ on Chris…I’m not.

I’m a big fan BUT I feel as though the label messed up BIG TIME. “Timing is everything”, I say. Jive Records SHOULD NOT HAVE rushed him into a new album. I feel as though because of what transpired through Chris Brown’s personal life there are a percentage of fans that he lost and no one is ready for him, for now, in my opinion. Kanye is laying low for awhile due to his abrupt interruption at the 2009 MTV VMA’s so why couldn’t Breezy’s label and even management do the same for the sake of his career?

The album is weak and it is not up to par compared to his last two albums which was great for his career and proved to everyone that he is a “performer” especially at the 2008 MTV VMA’s. So I’m not going hard on him I’m going hard on the label!!!

I don’t believe he will hit those numbers for the first week sales but could I be wrong?!?

P.S. I don’t get the concept of “Graffiti” and the cartoons in the album flipbook.
