Debra Ginyard took the fashion world by storm when she burst onto the New York scene and is quickly establishing herself as one of the most revered stylists in the industry. The Philadelphia native has appeared in publications such as Vibe, FHM, The Face, Details, That Magazine and The Ave.
Debra Ginyard’s innovative techniques evolved into her very own clothing and accessories line, which she named after her parents’ nicknames: Dot & Snookie. Incorporating a very personal touch, it is a distinct tribute to her modest yet fruitful upbringing. “My parents’ sense of style has been my inspiration throughout my work,” Debra says.

Dot & Snookie consists of shirts, hats, belts, handbags, and key chains creatively adorned with lace and ribbon. The garments are vibrant and come in a wide range of colors from pretty pastels to scorching bright patterns. Each design is named after the women in Ms. Ginyard’s family, such as Aunt Vivian, Aunt Dabu, Aunt Sissy, Debra’s sister’s Linda and Dorothea Ginyard and they all have different tastes and personalities.
Debra loves coming up with new and exciting designs for Dot & Snookie, but this is just one of the items on her agenda. In addition to sharing her fashion-world experiences at a Temple University fashion panel (where the topic was “Breaking Into the Industry”), Debra is also currently producing two films: Last Semester, and So Good, as well as putting together a teen magazine entitled Duchess. And, to top it all off, the Dot & Snookie creator is also the new Fashion Director of BE Magazine.

Ms. Ginyard is definitely up to the challenge of wearing many different hats, but ’styling and designing’ is her real passion. Be sure to check out Debra’s stylish creations on the big screen: the David Silberg film, Getting Played, starring Vivica A. Fox, Carmen Electra, Kathy Najimy, and Bill Bellamy, will feature Dot & Snookie clothing and accessories, as will the Juney Smith-directed City Teacher, starring Ella Joyce, Chuck Dee, Keith David, and Tommy Ford.
Though Dot & Snookie will soon be appearing in a theater near you, Debra hasn’t been neglecting the small screen. Recently, Ms. Ginyard’s fabulous designs have been seen on the Host of “VH1’s Hip Hop Honors Awards” Vivica A. Fox, and Debra was also interviewed by Cheryl Wills of NY1 as part of a segment called “African American Designers Try to Break Into the Fashion World”.
Dot & Snookie, geared to the confident, trendy young woman, who likes to ‘wow’ a crowd with daring and sexy or fun and flirty fashion statements, is now being sold at upscale, trendy boutiques such as Pieces, in Brooklyn, NY, Europe Moda in Philadelphia, PA, and Planet Earth, Bronx, NY and Dot & Snookie hats are being donated to Wyclef Jean’s “Yele” Foundation, www.yelehaiti.org.
