Tony Rock Interview

Okay let’s get the Obvious question out of the way. Your brother is Chris Rock are you two close?
We’re very close. He’s big bro, he’s the leader.
Now back to you. Where did you grow up?
Brooklyn, New York (shout out to Decatur Street)
When did you realize you were not only the class clown but you could actually make a living being funny?
I actually never knew doing comedy was a job. Once I found out I thought “where do I sign”.
You had a show on Oprah’s Oxygen Network, Have you ever met Oprah? You know what don’t even answer that because if you did Stedman would be out of a job. But seriously how was that experience having a show on Oxygen?
It was great, all women. I felt like Eddie Murphy in Boomerang.
Was the character on “All Of Us” Dirk Black anything like Tony Rock?
We are so similar you can’t really tell a difference (other than Dirk being married 4 times, Tony has never been married)
How did you hear “All of Us” was canceled?
I was on the road and my agent called and told me. I knew it was coming (Lisa Raye married a millionaire and didn’t want to do the show anymore). Look at how that worked out.
What was you immediate reaction the second you found out?
I cried for an hour and got back on my grind (sold 2 TV shows and booked another tour).
Now the reason we are interviewing you. What is this new television show “The Tony Rock Project” about?
The Tony Rock Project is a sketch comedy show designed to shine a light on all the “isms” in the world (racism, sexism, ageism, etc.) We call it the “Project” because its an experiment in comedy.
What inspires you?
I’m inspired as an artist to make a masterpiece that is timeless (Live on the Sunset Strip, Bring the Pain). Those are works of art.
Are you A role model?
Absolutely! I am the epitome of from nothing to something.
Have you officially made it yet?
Of course not. Bill Cosby “made it.” I’m getting there though.
And last but not least. The obvious question what’s next?
Other than “The Tony Rock Project”, I’ll be touring all throughout the fall and winter. Plus there are some projects my partners and I are working on bringing to the masses. Get at me on myspace.com/rockjokes.
